Gastrointestinal Infections Panel

Gastrointestinal Infections Panel

Gastrointestinal infections tests identify genetic material of clinically relevant pathogens that lead to gastrointestinal infections often accompanied by diarrhoea.

Such infections may be caused by a range of bacterial, viral or parasite pathogens. Diagnosing the root cause correctly based solely on clinical parameters is often difficult. This is why it is required to confirm the diagnosis with lab tests. Traditional lab testing using standard microbiological methods is often not sensitive enough, results take a long time to obtain and it is not possible to identify viruses and some bacteria. Moreover, identifying bacteria should not exclude testing for viral or parasite infections as there is a risk of coinfections. Molecular tests that we offer identify a wide range of pathogens resulting in gastrointestinal infections all in one test.

In addition to gastrointestinal infections, we can also test for gastrointestinal parasites, such as flatworms, nematodes and microsporidia. It is difficult to correctly diagnose the root causes of gastrointestinal infections because symptoms are often similar. Identifying the right pathogen correctly is important when deciding on treatment. The traditional approach based on identifying gastrointestinal endoparasites using microscope screening is time-consuming and often results in errors.

The following tests are available as part of the gastrointestinal infection panel:

Gastrointestinal Infections Panel: BACTERIA Detection and identification of DNA of 13 bacteria: Shigella spp./ enteroinvasive Escherichia coli (EIEC), Campylobacter spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio spp., Clostridium difficile toxin B, Aeromonas spp. Salmonella spp, hypervirulent Clostridium difficile, Escherichia coli O157, shigatoxic Escherichia coli STEC (stx1/2), enteropathogenic Escherichia coli EPEC (eaeA), enterotoxic Escherichia coli ETEC (It/st), enteroaggregative Escherichia coli EAEC (aggR).
Gastrointestinal Infections Panel: VIRUSES Detection and identification of DNA/RNA of 6 viruses: Adenovirus F (ADV-F) serotypes 40 i 41, Norovirus  GI (NVG 1), Norovirus GII (NVG 2), Rotavirus A (ROV), Astrovirus (ASV), Sapovirus (SV) genogroups G1, 2, 4, 5.
Gastrointestinal Infections Panel: UNICELLULAR ENDOPARASITES (PROTOZOA) Detection and identification of DNA of 6 unicellular endoparasites (protozoa): Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, Cryptosporidium spp., Blastocystis hominis, Dientamoeba fragilis, Cyclospora cayetanensis.
Gastrointestinal Infections Full Panel:       BACTERIA/ VIRUSES/ UNICELLULAR ENDOPARASITES Detection and identification of genetic material of 13 bacteria, 6 viruses and 6 protozoa: Shigella spp. / Enteroinvasive Escherichia coli (EIEC), Campylobacter spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio spp., Clostridium difficile toxin B, Aeromonas spp. Salmonella spp, hyperstirium difficile , Escherichia coli O157, shigatoxic Escherichia coli STEC (stx1 / 2), enteropathogenic Escherichia coli EPEC (eaeA), enterotoxic Escherichia coli ETEC (It / st), enteroaggregational Escherichia coli EAEC (aggR), Adenovirus F (ADV-F serotype) and 41, Norovirus GI (NVG 1), Norovirus GII (NVG 2), Rotavirus A (ROV), Astrovirus (ASV), Sapovirus (SV) genogroup G1, 2, 4, 5, Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica, Cryptosporidium spp. , Blastocystis hominis, Dientamoeba fragilis, Cyclospora cayetanensis.
Gastrointestinal Infection Panel: GASTROINTESTINAL PARASITES – HELMINTS (flatworms, roundworms, microsporidia) Detection and DNA identification of 8 multicellular endoparasites (flatworms, roundworms) and 1 unicellular endoparasite: Ancylostoma spp., Ascaris spp., Enterobius vermicularis, Enterocytozoon spp./Encephalitozoon spp., Hymenolepis spp., Necidesp. Trichuris trichiura.

Our service identifies all pathogen DNA in one test which makes it much quicker. The Real-Time PCR technology is very sensitive and identifies parasites even at low infection levels often below the thresholds of standard microscope tests.

Stool samples are required for this test.

If you are interested in the service, please contact us at: bok@genxone.eu. The exact offer will be prepared based on the set details of the analysis.
