The global epidemiological situation related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus made the biotechnology industry even more intensively use new, innovative solutions to increase the productivity and safety of the work performed. However, sometimes it turns out that the most helpful methods are not necessarily complicated.

In the face of the pandemic, it turned out that the greatest challenge of molecular laboratories is their throughput, i.e. the maximum number of tests that can be carried out in a given time and ensuring full safety when collecting samples from transport and changing laboratory teams. genXone has dealt with this problem in a seemingly trivial yet foolproof way. In May 2020, the company invested in a Mobile Laboratory Pavilion, equipped with the latest devices. The project was conceived by diagnosticians, and therefore fully meets the needs of laboratory employees, enabling the efficient course of the molecular testing process. As a consequence, all research to identify the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was transferred to a mobile pavilion, which on the one hand guaranteed a significant increase in the throughput of diagnostic tests, but above all full safety at work.
Mobile Laboratory Pavilion
Currently, thanks to the investment in the Mobile Laboratory Pavilion and equipping it with additional laboratory devices, the company is able to perform up to 1,000 diagnostic tests within one day. All teams of laboratory employees also have the opportunity to freely change their workstations during the day, and the process of delivering samples for testing is not burdened with contact with non-specialized personnel – the samples go directly to the pavilion located in the open space.
The great advantage of this simple solution is mobility. Apart from meeting the two conditions, i.e. access to standard media and a bit of space, no other components are required. This functional solution allowed genXone to exceed the number of 20,000 tests identifying COVID-19 infection in less than 2 months after the pavilion was launched.
